My Run-In with Richard Lewis

So, yesterday, my boss Kat, my coworker Mark, and I went out to lunch. At lunch, we glanced through the City Weekly, discussing the various acts and concerts coming to town.

One included Richard Lewis

In town for a stand-up comedy act tonight and tomorrow. I LOVED him as Prince John in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, one of the most hilarious movies of my childhood. So I thought it was pretty cool he was in town.

Well, we pulled up to the corner Maverick to grab some soda and snacks before going back to work. As we park, Mark goes, Look it's Richard Lewis! I looked up and let out a squeal, No Way!! It really was him! Crazy that we'd just been talking about him and there he is!

And he's walking around our car, and he walks directly at the back passenger-side door where I'm sitting it, and he opens it! What?! I'm sure I had a look of pure confusion and surprise on my face. Well, so did he! The look on his face when he opened the door to what he thought was his ride, and instead saw me sitting there in confusion and surprise, was amazing! A look of pure shock and surprise and almost fear. He yells, OH!, slams the door in my face, and quickly walks around the car back to his own, while I'm doubled over in the back seat laughing hysterically!

By that time, Mark had gotten out of his car, and hadn't seen this whole mistaken car situation go down, so he puts out his hand, shakes the hand of Richard Lewis and starts telling him how great he is. And Richard Lewis is just as gracious back, shakes Mark's hand, then gives the double middle finger to his driver/friend and says, F*** you! to him for not stopping him going to a different car, all with a big smile on his face.

It just might have been the single most awesome moment of my life!

D'yer Mak'er

Current new music interest:

Yeah.

I'm dating this guy who loves reggae music. My only foray into reggae in the past was Bob Marley, who is amazing. Especially sitting on a boat, rocking in the middle of a lake, eating a picnic lunch. Epic.

But John and I went to a reggae concert last night including the musical stylings of Through the Roots, Jahnre, Sober Down, and Iration. And I actually really enjoyed it. It's just so much fun to sit and chill to.

So try listening to some reggae. And... maybe ignore the words. Because too many of them are about drugs...

Priesthood Power!!

"Mine is a home where every hour is blessed by the strength of Priesthood power."

Guys... the Church is true! Priesthood power is real! The Holy Ghost is a real presence on this earth! Men can and DO speak the word of God! Revelation is true and real and personal!

I've been having a few struggles lately. Nothing big. My life is such a cake-walk, so not like I'm complaining! But I've just had a bit of confusion and frustration. After a long, GREAT talk with my Poppa about life and who I am and who I should be and the choices I have to make... He mentioned that he could give me a Father's blessing. I dismissed it at first because... it wasn't the night before a first day of school, and I wasn't in deep depression, I don't need healing, etc. But I finally accepted because ya know, what right do I have to refuse blessings?!

I'm so grateful I accepted, that my father is ready and able and willing to give a blessing, and that God speaks through man, that we can receive personal revelation. It was perfect-- comforting, full of truth and guidance, and God's words to and for me.

Thank you poppa for sharing that priesthood power with me.
Thank you, Father, my God, for loving me and for strengthening me, even when I already have SO much.

Update!

Happy February, friends and family!

Update on my goals:
Um... what were they? Let me go check that blogpost... Oh, right!

1. My calling... It's still difficult to be completely dedicated to it, especially with living 20 minutes away from my ward. Okay, I know 20 minutes is nothing compared to all those wards/branches all over the world who travel an hour each way just to go to church. But... I'm too used to living in Utah! I keep considering switching to a student ward closer to me. And I've even been to that student ward a couple times. But I truly love my current ward SO much. The people are amazing, and I've had some great experiences. So, while I'm still in this ward, I'm doing my best to serve the women as well as I can.

2. Healthy Living... Success! So far, anyway. I didn't really start on this goal until 3 weeks ago, when I realized that swimsuits and running season exist in my not too distant future. I've lost nearly 5 pounds (although, I sometimes think my scale is lying to me). And I'm feeling much happier now that I'm eating smoothies and salads and less sweets!

3. Budgeting... Hmm. I've had to pay to repair two cars within the past two weeks, so that's over $1,000 out the window. Ouch! But with a tax return, end of year bonus, and my payroll check, I'm happily able to put some money in savings. And with eating food from home rather than going out, I'm saving a lot of lunch money!

4. Connecting. It's still a toughie for me. I'd like to believe that I've become closer with at least 2 or 3 people so far this year. But who knows what THEY think?! I'm learning to love people for who they are and overlook what I perceive as "weaknesses." Beacause who am I to judge?!

Nothing much exciting is going on right now. I'm sitting at home, planning a church lesson and doing laundry on a Saturday night. So, yeah... an update post is all you get for now!

New Year's Resolutions v.2010

Happy New Year! So, New Year's Resolutions that I hope to stick to, scratch that, WILL stick to in order to become a happier and more fulfilled and better person:

1. Fulfill my Calling--Visit with the girls more often, follow up on visiting teaching, hold presidency meetings and be organized. Connect with the girls heart to heart.

2. Be Healthy--Do good cardio exercise at least three times a week, and get a serving or two of fruits and veggies daily. Bring lunches to work. Plan time to make healthy meals. Get sleep!!

3. Live on a Budget--Make a budget and stick to it. Stop spending money on useless things like restaurant meals, clothes I don't need, car accidents and citations, etc. Stop putting so much on my stupid charge card!

4. Connect with People--Sincerely care for my family, friends, and ward members. Make an effort to know what's going on in their lives. Be less selfish and more open. Serve and reach out to others.
